It Must be Comfortable not Questioning the Status Quo

Among other base accounts I’ve followed on Twitter -accounts that enable people to post their thought anonymously to gain wider viewers- I’m following this one account called literary based.

For me myself, following those accounts made me realize that there are many people from different backgrounds who are still full with questions and might be new on their hobbies. There are of course disparity of knowldge that we have to understand and later could help us leaving our ivory tower.

I followed some simple questions from there (@literarybase), and I kinda disturbed by the answers from its followers, some of them quite influential in the literary scene for their wide range of reading. The questions I’m talking about related to the status quo, system that has been established here. For example like why social media followers have become a key point by writers to get their writings published? Or lately about the fact that the published works by writers from neighbours countries are not widely read by the Indonesians.

I think questions like this are valid to be asked

Yet some of the replies seems not in ease with the questions. They replied with something like “you need to dig longer in the bookshop”, “go to alternative bookstores” etc. This kind of answers tend to accept current condition I believe valid to be questioned. If one needs to dig longer in the book store to find real quality books, isn’t that a problem? If one needs to go the festivals or book fairs to find more books from their neighbour countries, isn’t that something we need to ask? From that point, we can begin to change it.

I don’t know, but if we really read books, than we’ve come to understood the importance of questions. Philosophy. Just doesn’t make sense to degrade such questions, living in our ivory tower, and think that there is nothing problem with the status quo.

For me, to always question the status quo, to look for the ideal, is always valid.
